124 day echo s; ?> to the end of hurricane season
Hurricane Preparedness Week is May 21-27, 2006
By this time the winds are beginning to pick up and you should have all your supplies and have your windows covered.
Stay calm and wait inside:
- DO NOT go outside for any reason.
- Find the safest and most secure area in your home. Bathroom, small interior room, closet or hallway.
- Keep a battery powered radio, TV or a NOAA weather radio and flashlight with you.
- Close ALL interior doors and secure or brace exterior doors.
- In a two-story house go to an interior first-floor room.
- In a high-rise building, avoid upper floors and keep away from windows. Stay in interior areas, hallways interior stairwells and areas around elevator shafts are generally the strongest part of a building.
- If the wind suddenly dies down, that may mean the eye is passing. Keep in mind that the vicious part of the storm follows the passing of the eye.
